ADHD

As a professional organizer, I have worked with dozens of ADHDers, both grown-ups and children/teens.

I learned that it is so hard for them to get started with "boring" or daunting tasks.

My experience also led me to become a certified parent mentor for parents of ADHDers. Working with parents on creating a better home for children with ADHD is a passion for me.

Anxiety and procrastination are two of the most common factors of ADHD. It sometimes feels impossible to get your home under control. My training and experience with ADHD clients allow me to find the best path to get the job done while supporting you. I make sure we put in place systems that work for your ADHD brain.

What is ADHD?

Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that is characterized by difficulty paying attention, excessive activity, and impulsivity.

It affects people of all ages and genders. It is genetic, and you are born with it. Symptoms of ADHD can cause significant impairment in multiple areas of a person's life, including school, work, and relationships. Without awareness and accommodation, it can become extremely disruptive to one's life, and to the life of their loved ones.

There are many misconceptions about ADHD, too many to list all... here are a few:
It is NOT a personal choice.

It doesn't only affect children of school age.

Girls have it too and might have different manifestations.

Women who have it sometimes get misdiagnosed with anxiety or depression and more.

One more big one: medication is NOT the only way or even the best way to treat ADHD for everyone.

What is ALWAYS helpful is learning about ADHD, educating others who work with your child, and finding the right support that allows your child (and you!!) to thrive.

How does ADHD get diagnosed?

For the most accurate results and medical advice, you must see a psychiatrist or a neurologist.  The initial diagnosis takes about 40 minutes. Your GP (or your child's pediatrician) may or may not have enough knowledge about ADHD to give you an accurate recommendation.

That is enough for your child to start receiving accommodations at school and point you in the right direction regarding how to support them. You might then have a more extensive evaluation as needed and recommended by the health professional and/or your child's school.

Children as young as 5 can be diagnosed. The sooner you do, the more time you have to adjust your household, your expectations, and your parenting.

While it is never easy to find out your child has a neurological difference, with the right support in place they can thrive and manage their ADHD.

What services do you offer to support ADHD families?
